I've used Pageflakes and RSS search tools to create a current news page on our library web page. This will help students and teachers stay updated on world, national, and local news. From this, patrons will be able to select and set up their own feeds. I'm going to continue with pages on science and business news. I like this a great deal. Teachers do, too.

I like news from multiple sources delivered in one place at one time and that I don't have to search each source to find out what's new -- the new stuff just appears in my list. These are terrific to track library blogs and book review sources. Just great!

I think the news page on my library's web page would do well with RSS feeds for popular news sites.

I love that no students I've talked with this year even know what a library catalog cabinet looks like. Students can't imagine not being able to search online any time, place holds on materials, renew at will, compile reading lists, post reviews, etc. What a difference online access has made in serving patron needs.

I collect catalog cabinets because they played such a huge part in my career through the late '80s. I even brought a small one home from the international school in Ethiopia where I worked for a couple of years.

I'm planning to create a blog on which I can share my own reviews of new items in our library. I'm hoping to see lots of participation from students, from responding to my reviews to adding their own.

"2 shelves, 5 months, 40 books" posted on Flickr by Scampion is a great example of how to summarize a group of reviews.

The easiest thing to do is establish a goal. I want to tool up in order to offer teachers and students many more options than they have now to hold online discussions, collaborate on projects, and share ideas.

The greatest challenge is finding time to work on these Things. Since I'm a very early riser (on average 5:30 a.m.) and my husband is a late sleeper (gets up around 10:00 a.m.), the weekend mornings may work very well.

I am excited about this program. I feel certain I'll come away with the tools I need to build a much more interactive library program.
